Basic Diagnostic Procedure: Procedure

CAUTION: When removing or installing, remove all foreign matter (dust, water, and oil) from the parking brake control module connectors.

NOTE:

To check the harness for open or short circuits, shake problem spot or connector.
Refer to "Check List for Interview". Refer to , CHECK LIST FOR INTERVIEW .

1 CHECK PRE-INSPECTION . Ask the customer when and how the trouble occurred using the interview check list. Refer to , CHECK LIST FOR INTERVIEW . Before performing diagnosis, check the component which might affect parking brake system problems. Refer to , INSPECTION , General Description.	Is the component that might influence the parking brake system problem normal?	Go to step 2 .	Repair or replace each component.
2 CHECK INDICATION OF DTC. Turn the ignition switch to OFF. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to data link connector. Turn the ignition switch to ON and run the Subaru Select Monitor. Read the DTC using the Subaru Select Monitor. Refer to , OPERATION , Read Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). NOTE: If the communication function of the Subaru Select Monitor cannot be executed properly, check the communication circuit. Refer to , COMMUNICATION FOR INITIALIZING IMPOSSIBLE , INSPECTION, Subaru Select Monitor.	Is DTC displayed on Subaru Select Monitor?	Record the DTC. Go to step 4 .	Go to step 3 .
3 PERFORM GENERAL DIAGNOSTICS. Perform the inspection by referring to "General Diagnostic Table". Refer to , GENERAL DIAGNOSTIC TABLE . Perform the Clear Memory Mode. Refer to , OPERATION , Clear Memory Mode. Perform the Inspection Mode. Refer to , PROCEDURE , Inspection Mode. Read the DTC. Refer to , OPERATION , Read Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). Check the DTC is not displayed.	After starting the engine, do the electronic parking brake warning light (C6 model only), hill hold indicator light and brake warning light go off with the parking brake released?	Finish the diagnosis.	Check the combination meter circuit. Refer to , ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND HILL HOLD INDICATOR LIGHT DO NOT GO OFF , Warning Light Illumination Pattern. Refer to , BRAKE WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT GO OFF , Warning Light Illumination Pattern. Refer to , HILL HOLD INDICATOR LIGHT DO NOT GO OFF , Warning Light Illumination Pattern. Refer to , BRAKE WARNING LIGHT REMAINS BLINKING , Warning Light Illumination Pattern.
4 CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the freeze frame data for the parking brake control module.	Are freeze frame data recorded? Record the freeze frame data.	Go to step 5 .	Go to step 5 .
5 PERFORM DIAGNOSIS. Refer to "LIST OF DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)". NOTE: For the DTC list, refer to , LIST , List of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). Correct the cause of trouble. Perform the Clear Memory Mode. Refer to , OPERATION , Clear Memory Mode. Perform the Inspection Mode. Refer to , PROCEDURE , Inspection Mode. Read the DTC. Refer to , OPERATION , Read Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).	Is DTC displayed?	Repeat step 5 until DTC is not shown.	Finish the diagnosis.
