Power Rear Gate System: Procedure: Initialization

NOTE: Perform the initialization of the power rear gate auto closer, if the battery ground cable is connected with the rear gate open. The initialization is not necessary if the rear gate is closed when connecting the battery source cable.
  1. With the ignition "OFF", open the power rear gate manually.
  2. Carefully (slowly) close the rear gate until it is partially latched, the first audible "click" of the rear gate latch mechanism is heard then let go of the rear gate.
  3. The auto closer function will then operate to complete the rear gate closing/latching function.
  4. After the power rear gate is fully closed, operate any of the operation switches to verify the automatic opening and closing operation of the power rear gate. If the power rear gate still does not operate properly, perform the rest of the diagnostic procedures. < Ref. to BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . >
