Engine Assembly: Removal

- Remove the striker - front hood. <Ref. to DISASSEMBLY , Front Hood.>
- Fully open the front hood. <Ref. to FRONT HOOD DAMPER STAY , NOTE, Note.>
- Remove the V-belt covers.
- Collect the refrigerant from A/C system. <Ref. to REFRIGERANT RECOVERY PROCEDURE .>
- Release the fuel pressure. <Ref. to RELEASING OF FUEL PRESSURE , PROCEDURE, Fuel.>
- Remove the battery. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Battery.>
- Open the fuel filler lid and remove the fuel filler cap.NOTE: This operation is required to release the inner pressure of the fuel tank.
- Remove the air intake duct and air cleaner case (rear). <Ref. to REMOVAL , Air Intake Duct.> <Ref. to REMOVAL , Air Cleaner Case.>
- Remove the intercooler. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Intercooler.>
- Remove the radiator. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Radiator.>
- Remove the coolant filler tank. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Coolant Filler Tank.>
- Disconnect the bulkhead harness connectors from the engine harness connectors.
- Lift the claw (A) and remove the engine harness connector from the engine harness bracket.
- Disconnect the following connectors and terminals.
- Generator connector and terminal
- Secondary air pump connector
- Disconnect connector (A) from the A/C compressor.
- Remove the clip (B) securing the generator cord, and move the generator cord to the left side wheel apron.
- Disconnect the following hoses.
- A/C pressure hose <Ref. to REMOVAL , Hose and Pipe.>
- Brake booster vacuum hose (A) and pressure regulator vacuum hose (B)
- Heater inlet hose and heater outlet hose
- Remove the power steering pump.
- Remove the front side belt. <Ref. to FRONT SIDE BELT , REMOVAL, V-belt.>
- Disconnect the connector from power steering pump switch.
- Remove the bolt which holds purge control solenoid valve 1 onto intake manifold.
- Remove the power steering pump from the engine.
- Place the power steering pump on the right side wheel apron.
- Remove the center exhaust pipe. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Center Exhaust Pipe.>
- Remove the turbocharger. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Turbocharger.>
- Remove the joint pipe and front exhaust pipe. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Joint Pipe.> <Ref. to REMOVAL , Front Exhaust Pipe.>
- Disconnect the ground cable on the engine side.
- Remove the bolts and nuts which hold the lower side of transmission to the engine.
- Remove the nuts which secure the engine mounting to the front crossmember.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the starter. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Starter.>
- Separate the clutch release fork from the release bearing.NOTE: This procedure is required to remove engine with the release bearing assembled to the clutch cover.
- Remove the operating cylinder from the transmission.NOTE: Move the removed operating cylinders to a location that does not interfere operation.
- Remove the return spring from the release fork.
- Remove the service hole plug using a hexagon wrench.
- Attach a 6-mm bolt to the release shaft, and pull out the release shaft.
- Lift the release fork, and remove from the tab of the release bearing. Pull the release fork to the engine side, and make it so that it moves freely.
- Remove the operating cylinder from the transmission.
- Remove the pitching stopper.
- Disconnect the fuel delivery hose, fuel return hose and evaporation hose.CAUTION:
- Be careful not to spill fuel.
- Catch the fuel from hoses using a container or cloth.
- Set the ST to the fuel pipe.
ST 42099AE000 QUICK CONNECTOR RELEASE
- Disconnect the quick connector of the fuel delivery hose and fuel return hose by pushing the ST in the direction of the arrow.
- Remove the clip and disconnect the evaporation hose from the fuel pipe.
- Install the intercooler stay RH No. 2.
Tightening torque:
16 N.m (1.6 kgf-m, 11.8 ft-lb)
- Support the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.
- Support the transmission with a garage jack.CAUTION: Be sure to perform this procedure to prevent the transmission from lowering by its own weight.
- Remove the bolts which hold the upper side of the transmission to the engine.CAUTION: Before removing the engine away from transmission, check to be sure no work has been overlooked.
- Remove the engine from the vehicle.NOTE: Be careful not to damage adjacent parts or body panels with crank pulley, oil level gauge, etc.
- Slightly raise the engine.
- Raise the transmission with garage jack.
- Move the engine horizontally until main shaft is withdrawn from clutch cover.
- Slowly move the engine away from engine compartment.
- Remove the engine mounting from the engine.
