INTRODUCTION

This bulletin provides a service procedure for installation of additional foam packing to enhance performance of the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor. The additional foam better insulates the sensor from engine compartment heat which may lead to setting a DTC P0072. This information is applicable to models with or without the Active Grill Shutter (AGS) system.

PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION

The additional insulation was incorporated into production starting with the following VINS:

PART INFORMATION

The part number for the additional foam packing is: 52829AL000  . The kit consists of 1 piece of self-adhesive foam to be applied to the existing foam. In addition to this piece of foam, a small piece of self-adhesive foam tape (available in rolls from any hardware store or home improvement retailer) approximately 6" long and 1/8" thick will be required to complete Step 5  below.

SERVICE PROCEDURE/INFORMATION

Step 1:  Remove the front bumper fascia assembly to access the ambient air temperature sensor following the procedure in the applicable Service Manual. The sensor is located on the passenger side near the end of the lower grill opening as shown below.

Step 3:  Using window cleaner applied to a clean shop cloth, clean any dirt from the outside facing surface of the existing foam packing.

IMPORTANT: The existing foam must be completely dry before proceeding to Step 4  .

Step 4:  Prepare the new (additional) self-adhesive foam packing. There are 2 cuts in the new part as shown.

IMPORTANT: The vertical cut must be positioned toward the front of the vehicle and the intersection point of the cuts aligned with the hole in the existing foam packing. Use a permanent marker to make some alignment marks for positioning the new foam using the dimensions shown on the illustration below as a guide. Peel the backing and apply the new foam to the existing foam packing. Press your finger along the foam while supporting it from the other side where the adhesive backing is to ensure it is fully seated against the existing foam.

Step 5:  Using the illustration below for reference and with window cleaner applied to a clean shop cloth, clean the sensor wiring harness in the area where the additional piece of foam tape will be applied. After thoroughly drying the area, peel the backing and wrap the piece of foam tape around the harness and itself until at least  a 5mm thickness is acheived. This extra foam tape will provide an additional means for securing the new foam applied in Step 4  in position against the existing piece.

Step 6:  Push the ambient sensor/harness connector back through the new and existing foam then secure in place with the retaining clip.
