DTC P0606 AFTER VEHICLE BATTERY IS RECONNECTED
TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN
| SUBARU: | All Models |
APPLICABILITY
All Models with 2.0L & 2.4L DIT (Turbo) Engines
INTRODUCTION
This Bulletin provides information regarding DTC P0606 related specifically to the determination of this code on models equipped with 2.0L & 2.4L Turbo Engines.
The engine management system is equipped with a back-up memory. When disconnecting the battery cables, this back-up memory is cleared.
After re-connecting the battery, if the ignition switch is turned back "ON" within one minute after the first time the ignition is turned "OFF", it becomes possible for the CEL to illuminate storing DTC P0606 in memory. The code will not occur immediately, but may occur after a period of time depending upon how the vehicle is operated.
Examples of scenarios which can "start the groundwork" for DTC P0606:
- Disconnecting the battery
- OBD Memory Clear
- A dead or deeply discharged battery
- ECM Replacement (requires battery disconnect)
- Accessory installation or other service procedures which require disconnecting the battery
SERVICE PROCEDURE/INFORMATION
To minimize the chances of DTC P0606 setting, if you know (or suspect) any of the above or a similar scenario has occurred, (or if you already have a DTC P0606 stored), follow the procedure below:
- Using the SSMIII, clear the ECM memory in OBD. (Main Menu > Each System Check > Engine Control System > OBD System > Clear Memory)
- Turn the ignition "ON" then "OFF" normally one time. Wait for more than one minute before turning the ignition back "ON" again.
This procedure allows the self-shutoff relay to power down, completing the self-shutoff procedure.
Always attach testing results to the repair order for future reference.
