Oil Level Switch: Removal
CAUTION:
If the engine oil is spilt over the engine, exhaust pipe or the under cover, completely wipe it off to avoid emission of smoke or causing a fire.
- Remove the striker - front hood. Ref. to EXTERIOR BODY PANELS>FRONT HOOD>DISASSEMBLY .
- Fully open the front hood. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>STAY ASSEMBLY - FRONT HOOD .
- Collect the refrigerant. (Hybrid model) Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER (HEV)>REFRIGERANT RECOVERY PROCEDURE>PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the ground terminal from battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY
.NOTE: For the hybrid model, disconnect the battery negative terminal.
- Remove the V-belt covers. (Except for hybrid model)
- Remove the collector cover. (Hybrid model) Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>COLLECTOR COVER>REMOVAL .
- Remove the air intake duct. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>AIR INTAKE DUCT>REMOVAL .
- Remove the clip from the air intake boot, and loosen the clamp.
- Remove the air intake boot, and place it aside so that it does not interfere with the work.CAUTION: Be careful not to pull out the PCV hose.
- Remove the TCM. (Impreza CVT model) Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM)>REMOVAL .
- Turn the transmission harness clockwise till the bolt hole can be seen as shown in the figure, and tighten the bolt to temporarily lock the harness. (Impreza CVT model)
- Remove the pitching stopper. (Except for Impreza CVT model)
Except for Crosstrek hybrid model: Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 CROSSTREK)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>REMOVAL>PITCHING STOPPER .
Crosstrek hybrid model: Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>REMOVAL>PITCHING STOPPER .
5MT model: Ref. to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (5MT)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>REMOVAL>PITCHING STOPPER .
6MT model: Ref. to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (6MT)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>REMOVAL>PITCHING STOPPER .
- Remove the bolt securing the transmission bracket. (Hybrid model)NOTE: This procedure is required to prevent the transmission bracket and ground cord from being damaged during engine removal/installation.
- Remove the A/C accumulator assembly. (Hybrid model) Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER (HEV)>ACCUMULATOR>REMOVAL .
- Drain the engine oil. Ref. to LUBRICATION (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>ENGINE OIL>REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the front exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>FRONT EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .
- Remove the nuts which secure the engine mounting to the front crossmember. (CVT model)
- Remove the nuts which secure the engine mounting to the front crossmember. (MT model)
- Remove the electric power steering gearbox. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GEARBOX>REMOVAL .
- Remove the front drive shaft LH. Ref. to DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>REMOVAL .
- Using the ST1, install the ST2 to the engine unit. (Except for hybrid model)
Preparation tool:
ST1: BOLT (18363AA050)
ST2: HANGER (18360AA040)
Tightening torque:
43 N.m (4.4 kgf-m, 31.7 ft-lb)
- Lift up the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.CAUTION: When lifting up the engine, pay attention to the clearance of each part and be careful not to lift the engine too much, in order to prevent damaging the vehicle.
(A) To engine rear hanger (B) To ST (except for hybrid model) or the compressor bracket (hybrid model) - Remove the engine mounting LH.
- Disconnect the connector and remove the clips.
- Remove the clip to remove the oil level switch.
