Air Spring Module - Rear - LH - Remove And Replace: Installation

CAUTION: Ensure that the bolt that secures the spring assembly to the knuckle is inserted towards the rear of the vehicle; the head of the bolt faces the front of the vehicle and the nut is tightened at the rear.
NOTE: Clean the affected areas before installation.
CAUTION: Only fully tighten suspension nuts and bolts when the vehicle is on a 4-post lift and the suspension is in the ride height position.
  1. Position the LH rear air spring module into the vehicle
    NOTE: Route the air spring module past the brake line mount, align the module on the mounting studs, and then insert the lower mount to the knuckle.

  2. Install new nuts (2007059-00-B) (x3) that secure the air spring module to the body (red arrows).

    40 N.m (29.5 lbs-ft) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 15 mm deep socket
    • 11 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench

  3. Install the air line in LH rear air spring module.
    NOTE: Remove the white plug and fully insert the air line into the fitting. The fitting should sit between the two marks on the air line. Perform a push and pull test to verify the line is properly seated.

  4. Hand-tighten the bolt and the nut that secure the air spring module to the knuckle.
    NOTE: Use a screwdriver to align bolt hole. Torque at later step.

  5. Hand-tighten the bolt that secures the rear upper link to the knuckle.
    NOTE: Torque at later step. The bolt size may vary from 15mm to 18mm.

  6. Install a hub jack adapter (1459409-00-A) onto the LH rear hub.
    NOTE: Hand tight the adapter lug nuts. Use a modified hydraulic hub tool if the correct adapter is not available.
  7. Position and raise the support stand to simulate the LH rear suspension at ride height. The distance from the upper fore link to the bolt on the frame rail should be 85mm +/- 5mm.
  8. Torque the bolt that secures the rear upper link to the knuckle.

    140 N.m (103.2 lbs-ft) 

    NOTE: The bolt size may vary from 15mm to 18mm. Mark with a paint pen.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
    • 15 mm socket/18 mm socket
    • Paint Pen

  9. Torque the bolt and the nut that secure the air spring module to the knuckle.

    140 N.m (103.2 lbs-ft) 

    NOTE: Mark with a paint pen.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 21 mm socket
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 21mm
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Paint Pen

  10. Lower the support stand until the suspension is unladen, and then remove the support stand and the hub jack adapter.
  11. Install the bolt that attaches the park brake chassis harness bracket to the LH rear knuckle.

    35 N.m (25.8 lbs-ft) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 11 mm deep socket

  12. Secure the tabs (x2) to install the LH rear air spring module harness bracket to the air spring.

  13. Connect the lower LH rear air spring module connector.

  15. Secure the red locking tab to connect the electric parking brake caliper harness connector.

  16. Install the rear wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH - Remove And Replace .
  17. Install the LH rear wheel. See Wheel - Remove And Install .
  18. Refill the new air spring module or air suspension system according to the circumstances of the repair:
    • The rear LH air spring module was replaced for noise: Inflate the individual air spring with the assisted nitrogen inflate routine for that corner.
    • The air spring was replaced for a leak: purge the entire system.
  19. Install the HEPA filter inlet duct. See Duct - HEPA Filter - Inlet - Remove And Replace
  20. Install the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH - Remove And Replace .
  21. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear - Remove And Replace .
  22. On the laptop, select the Actions  tab and search for "TAS service mode", select PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODE,  click Run  , and allow the routine to complete.
  23. Disconnect the laptop.
  24. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
  25. On the touchscreen, tap Controls > Suspension > Low > Very High  to verify the operation of the air suspension.
    NOTE: All doors must be closed to allow the ride height to cycle. Set the suspension back to "Standard" after verification.
  26. Exit Service Mode through UI. See Service Mode .
  27. Close the LH front door.
  28. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension .
