Differentials & Drive Axles: Description

NOTE: Cab and chassis models will be referred to as C & C within this article.

The axle assembly is a hypoid gear type with a separate carrier housing. Limited slip differential is available in Land Cruiser models. One-piece differential cases use 2 pinion gears. Two-piece differential cases use 4 pinion gears.

Differential side bearing preload is set with adjusting nuts on all models. Pinion bearing preload can be set with either a solid spacer and adjusting shim or with a collapsible spacer.
