Automatic Hot Air Intake & Hot Idle COMPENSATOR: Description

The hot air intake system leads a hot air supply to carburetor in cold weather to improve driveability and prevents carburetor from icing in extremely cold weather. All models use a thermostatic valve to control opening and closing of air inlet door. Pickup and 4Runner models use a separate thermal vacuum valve to operate heated air door.

The hot idle compensator (HIC) unit is located on the air cleaner and works to supply additional air to the intake manifold when high temperature conditions exist. This helps maintain the proper air/fuel mixture under these conditions.
