Power Steering Pump: Reassembly

  1. Lubricate flow control valve and spring with Dexron ATF. Install control valve, spring, plug and snap ring to pump. Lubricate rotor shaft with ATF. Using a plastic mallet, install rotor into front housing.
  2. Install snap ring to front housing. Grease oil seal lip. Using a driver and hammer, install oil seal. Lubricate and install "O" ring to front housing. Align fluid passages of ring cam and front housing. Install ring cam. Lubricate rotor with ATF.
  3. On Pickup and 4Runner, install cam ring. Install rotor with cut spline facing toward front housing. Ensure letters on ring cam and rotor match. Lubricate vane plates with ATF. Install vane plates with round end facing outward. Lubricate and install 2 "O" rings to rear housing.
  4. On Land Cruiser, install springs and slippers into fixed ring. Holding slippers and springs in place, install shaft assembly. Install 2 "O" rings to rear housing.
  5. Align pin holes with pins, place rear plate on the ring cam. Place spring on rear plate. Aligning marks on front and rear housings, install rear plate. Finger tighten front and rear housing retaining bolts. Clamp rear housing in a soft-jawed vise.
  6. Tighten housing bolts evenly in 3 or 4 steps. Lubricate and install "O" ring to union. Insert and tighten union. Ensure rotor shaft operates smoothly. Install pulley nut. Check rotating torque. Torque should be less than 2.4 INCH lbs. (.3 N.m).
