Hot Air Intake (HAI) System

1. Remove air cleaner. On Pickup, cool thermostatic valve. On Corolla and Tercel, cool Hot Idle Compensator (HIC) valve. Start engine. Check that air control valve closes cool air passage at idle.
2. Reinstall air cleaner cover. Start and warm engine. Check that air control valve opens cool air passage at idle. See Fig 2, Figure or Figure. Visually check hoses and connections for cracks, leaks and damage.
