Ignition Coil Resistance Check (Secondary)

  1. On Tercel, use an ohmmeter to measure resistance between coil positive terminal and coil tower. See Fig 1.
  2. If resistance is not within specification, replace ignition coil. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is within specification, proceed to PICK-UP COIL RESISTANCE  test.
  3. On Pickup, measure resistance between positive (Brown wire) and the high-tension (coil) terminal. See Fig 2. If resistance is not within specification, replace the ignition coil. Refer to the IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is within specification, proceed to next step.
  4. Measure coil insulation resistance between positive (Brown wire) and ignitor body ground (GND). See Fig 3. Ohmmeter should read infinity. If ohmmeter does not read infinity, replace ignition coil. If ohmmeter reading is okay, proceed to PICK-UP COIL RESISTANCE  Test.
