Power Steering Pump Specifications: Inspection
- Measure clearance between rotor shaft and front housing bushing. Replace components if clearance exceeds specification. See appropriate POWER STEERING PUMP SPECIFICATIONS table.
- Place rotor and vanes plate in cam ring. Measure clearance between vane plate and cam ring. Replace cam ring if clearance exceeds specification. See appropriate POWER STEERING PUMP SPECIFICATIONS table.NOTE: If replacing cam ring, ensure number stamped on outer edge of cam ring is same as number stamped on outer surface of rotor.
- Measure vane plate length, height and thickness. Measure vane plate-to-rotor clearance. Replace components if not within specification. See appropriate POWER STEERING PUMP SPECIFICATIONS table.
- Inspect flow control valve for damage. Coat valve with ATF, and ensure flow control valve moves freely in housing bore. Close one hole on side of flow control valve.
- Apply 57-71 psi (4-5 kg/cm2 ) of compressed air in opposite hole on side of valve. Replace flow control valve if air escapes from hole on bottom of valve. Ensure flow control valve spring free length is within specification. See appropriate POWER STEERING PUMP SPECIFICATIONS table.
CAUTION:
If replacing flow control valve, ensure replacement valve has same letter as stamped on outer edge of original valve.
