Speed Sensor Diagnostics
NOTE:
During speed sensor diagnosis, ABS functions like a conventional brake system.
- Ensure battery voltage is about 12 volts. Turn ignition on. Verify ABS light comes on, then goes out after about 3 seconds. If ABS light does not come on, check fuse, bulb, and wiring harness.
- Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between DLC1 terminals Ts and E1. See Figure. Engage parking brake. Start engine. DO NOT press brake pedal. ABS light should flash 4 times per second.
- Drive vehicle straight ahead above 12.4 MPH for several seconds. Ensure ABS light turns on while braking. Drive vehicle straight ahead above 28 MPH. If ABS light displays any DTC, go to next step. If ABS displays normal DTC (4 flashes per second), check is completed.
- Stop vehicle. Connect jumper wire between DLC1 terminals Tc and E1, leaving terminals Ts and E1 connected. If a DTC is stored, 4 seconds will elapse, then ABS light will begin to flash a 2-digit DTC. First group of flashes will indicate first digit in DTC. After a 1.5-second pause, second group of flashes will indicate second digit in a DTC.
- If 2 or more DTCs are stored, there will be a 2.5-second pause between each DTC. After all DTCs are flashed, there will be a 4-second pause, then all DTCs will repeat.
- Record DTCs. Turn ignition off. Repair as necessary. See SPEED SENSOR DIAGNOSTIC CODES . Remove jumper wires from DLC1. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DTCS .
