Using Jumper Wire

  1. Turn ignition on. Install Jumper Wire (SST 09843-18040) between terminals TE1 and E1 on Data Link Connector (DLC) No. 1. DLC No. 1 is located on end of air intake chamber at passenger's side of engine. See Fig 2.
  2. Note display operation of Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) on instrument panel. MIL may also be referred to as CHECK ENGINE light and is located on instrument panel, just below tachometer.
  3. Normal code and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 12 will be displayed by MIL. See Fig 3. If a problem exists in engine immobilizer system, a DTC 99 will be displayed by MIL. See Fig 3. If DTC 99 is displayed, proceed to TROUBLE SHOOTING SYMPTOMS  table under TROUBLE SHOOTING to system diagnosis by symptom.
  4. Remove jumper wire. Once all repairs are performed, clear DTCs from Engine Control Module (ECM). See CLEARING CODES .
  5. If MIL fails to operate when jumper wire is installed, check wiring circuit between TE1 terminal on DLC No. 1 and ECM connector E11 terminal No. 6 (Blue/White wire). For ECM terminal identification, see Figure. ECM is located behind glove box.
