Cooling System Bleeding: MR2
NOTE:
Following procedure assumes engine has been properly drained and cooling system is empty. Ensure drain plugs in radiator, radiator pipes and engine are tight.
- Connect service hoses to air drain plug of radiator and heater water valve. Suspend opposite ends to hood. See Fig 1. Turn air drain plug of radiator and heater water valve counterclockwise to open.
- Slowly add engine coolant. DO NOT use alcohol type coolant or plain water. Distilled water is preferred. Check that air is bleeding from air drain service hose of radiator and heater water valve. When filling coolant reservoir, keep level at upper two thirds of reservoir. Ensure water level of air drain hoses is equal to that of coolant reservoir. See Fig 2.
- Turn air drain plugs of radiator and heater water valve clockwise to close. Install reservoir cap. Remove service hoses. Start engine and check that air is bleeding to reservoir. After warming up engine sufficiently and cooling fans come on at least once, coolant level should be over FULL mark. See 4-CYLINDER COOLING SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS . After complete cooling of engine, coolant level should be between LOW and FULL. If not, repeat step 1) and 2) .
- Reinstall tool box and luggage compartment trim box cover. Reinstall luggage under cover.
