Trouble Shooting

NOTE: Perform engine immobilizer system self-diagnostics before performing trouble shooting. See PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
TROUBLE SHOOTING SYMPTOMS

Immobilizer Not Set (Engine Starts W/Incorrect Key Codes) (1) ECM
Engine Does Not Start (2) Key, (1) Wiring harness, (3) Transponder Key Coil, (4) Transponder Key Amplifier, (1) ECM
Security Indicator Is Always On (5) or (6) Security Indicator, (1) Wiring Harness, (1) ECM
Security Indicator Always On Although Code Has Been Registered In Automatic Registration Mode (1) Wiring Harness, (3) Transponder Key Coil, Amplifier, (1) ECM
Security Indicator Is Off (When Immobilizer DTC Is Output) (1) Wiring Harness, (3) Transponder Key Coil, Amplifier, (1) ECM
Security Indicator Is Off (When Immobilizer DTC Is Not Output) (1) Wiring Harness, (1) ECM
Security Indicator Is Flashing Abnormally (1) Wiring Harness, (1) ECM, (6) Security Indicator Light Circuit
(1) Check for opens or shorts in wiring harness for engine immobilizer system and perform circuit tests. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  and PIN VOLTAGE TESTS . Repair or replace components as necessary.
(2) Ensure ignition key which did not start engine has been registered and that it is possible to start engine with other already registered ignition keys. See PROGRAMMING  for information on ignition key registration.
(3) Check transponder key coil. See TRANSPONDER KEY COIL  under COMPONENT TESTS.
(4) Transponder key amplifier may be defective, or wiring circuit between ECM and transponder key amplifier may be defective.
(5) Check that automatic registration mode is completed. If still in automatic registration mode, SECURITY indicator light may remain on. See IGNITION KEY REGISTRATION  under PROGRAMMING for information on automatic registration mode.
