Ignition Timing: Inspection

- WARM UP ENGINE
Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
- CONNECT TOYOTA HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL
- Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
- Please refer to the TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool operator's for further details.
- CHECK IDLE SPEED . See IDLE SPEED .
- CONNECT TIMING LIGHT
Connect the tester probe of a timing light to the black-red service wire in the J/B No. 1 as shown.
- INSPECT IGNITION TIMING
- Using SST, connect terminals to TC and CG of the DLC3.

NOTE: After engine RPM is kept at 1,000 - 1,500 RPM for 5 seconds, check that it returns to idle speed. - Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.
Ignition timing: 8 - 12° BTDC @ idle
- Remove the SST from the DLC3.
- Using SST, connect terminals to TC and CG of the DLC3.
- FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING
Ignition timing: 6 - 15° BTDC @ idle
NOTE: The timing mark moves in a range between 6° and 15°. - DISCONNECT TIMING LIGHT
- DISCONNECT TOYOTA HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL
