Test No. 18: Front Personal Light At Front Of Headliner Does Not Operate

  1. Front personal light is located at the front of headliner, near the windshield. See Figure. Check light bulb for front personal light. If light bulb is okay, go to next step. If light bulb is defective, replace light bulb and recheck front personal light operation.
  2. Remove front personal light from headliner. Disconnect electrical connector from front personal light. Note electrical terminal identification on front personal light. See Fig 1.
  3. Using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 1 and 3 with switch on front personal light in OFF position and that continuity exists with switch in ON position. Check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 2 and 3 with switch at any position. If operation is as specified, reinstall electrical connector and front personal light. Go to next step. If operation is not as specified, replace front personal light and recheck front personal light operation.
  4. Check body ECU for proper voltage and input signals. See BODY ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT  under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. If proper voltage and input signals exist, go to next step. If proper voltage or input signal does not exist, repair as necessary and recheck front personal light operation.
  5. Replace body ECU with a known-good body ECU and recheck front personal light operation. If front personal light system operates properly, original body ECU was defective. If front personal light still does not operate properly, check wiring harness and electrical connectors for body ECU and front personal light for an intermittent problem. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary.
