Electronic Control Module (ECM)
ECM constantly monitors and compares cruise control set speed with actual vehicle speed signal input from ABS control module. If vehicle speed signal is different from set speed, ECM activates throttle valve actuator motor to change throttle valve opening to maintain cruise control set speed.
ECM includes a self-diagnostic function for cruise control system. If cruise control operation is canceled by a malfunction, ECM may set a corresponding Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). When a malfunction occurs, ECM will also store freeze frame data from time malfunction occurred. OBD-II or Toyota hand held scan tool is required to retrieve freeze frame data. ECM will only retain cruise control fault information during the ignition cycle in which the fault was detected. If ignition switch is turned to OFF position, cruise control DTCs will not be retained. However most recent malfunction freeze frame data will be stored in memory.
