Test No. 20: Rear Washer Does Not Operate

  1. Check rear wiper/washer switch. See REAR WIPER/WASHER SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If rear wiper/washer switch is okay, go to next step. If rear wiper/washer is defective, replace wiper/washer switch and recheck rear washer operation.
  2. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors for Green/Black and Yellow/Black wires for rear wiper/washer switch between rear wiper/washer switch and body Electronic Control Unit (ECU). See WIRING DIAGRAMS in WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article. Body ECU is located behind driver's side of instrument panel and contains 3 electrical connectors. See Figure. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connector are defective, repair as necessary and recheck rear washer operation.
  3. Check rear washer motor. See REAR WASHER MOTOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. If rear washer motor is okay, go to next step. If rear washer motor is defective, replace rear washer motor and recheck rear washer operation.
  4. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between rear wiper/washer switch and body Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and between rear washer motor and body ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article. Body ECU is located behind driver's side of instrument panel and contains 3 electrical connectors. See Figure. If wiring harness and electrical connector are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical are defective, repair as necessary and recheck rear washer operation.
  5. Check body ECU for proper voltage and input signals. See BODY ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT  under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. If proper voltage and input signals exist, go to next step. If proper voltage and input signals do not exist, repair as necessary and recheck rear washer operation.
  6. Replace body ECU with a known-good body ECU and recheck rear washer operation. If rear washer operates properly, original body ECU was defective. If rear washer still does not operate properly, check wiring harness and electrical connectors for body ECU for an intermittent problem. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary.
