Tilt Steering Column: Removal
- Remove Stereo Component Controller Assembly
Remove the stereo component controller assembly.
- Remove Steering Wheel Pad NOTE: If the airbag connector is disconnected with the ignition switch at ON or ACC, DTCs will be recorded.
- Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
- Using a torx socket wrench, loosen the 2 torx screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.
- Pull out the wheel pad from the steering wheel and disconnect the airbag connector.
CAUTION:
- When storing the wheel pad, keep the upper surface of the pad facing upward.
- Never disassemble the wheel pad.
NOTE: When removing the wheel pad, take care not to pull the airbag wire harness.
- Remove Steering Wheel
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove the steering wheel set nut.
- Place matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft assembly.
- Using SST, remove the steering wheel.
SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)
- Remove Front Door Inside Scuff Plate
- Remove Cowl Side Trim
Remove the clip and cowl side trim.
- Remove Lower LH Finish Panel
- Remove the 2 screws and disconnect the hood lock control lever.
- Remove the 2 bolts and lower LH finish panel.
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove LH Lower Instrument Panel
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Remove the 2 bolts and LH lower instrument panel.
- Remove Upper And Lower Column Covers
- Remove the lower No. 2 cover from the lower column cover.
- Remove the 3 screws, upper and lower column covers.
- Remove Combination Switch With Spiral Cable
- Disconnect the 5 connectors.
- Disconnect the airbag connector.
- Remove the 3 screws and combination switch with spiral cable.
- Remove Spiral Cable (See COMPONENTS
) NOTE: Do not disassemble the spiral cable or apply oil to it.
- Disconnect Intermediate Shaft Assembly
- Place matchmarks on the intermediate shaft assembly and control valve shaft.
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the intermediate shaft assembly.
- Disconnect Transmission Control Cable Assembly
Disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the column shift lever assembly.
- Remove Intermediate Shaft Assembly
Remove the bolt and intermediate shaft assembly.
- Remove Steering Column Assembly
- Loosen the clamp bolt.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Remove the return spring.
- Remove the 4 column assembly set nuts and steering column assembly.
