Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-ASSY: Replacement

- DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL (SEE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS )
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.3
- REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY (SEE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS )
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY (SEE
OVERHAUL
)
SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LWR (SEE OVERHAUL )
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (SEE OVERHAUL )
- REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSY W/SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Remove the 3 screws and the turn signal switch assy w/ spiral cable sub-assy.
- REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (SEE REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (SEE REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY LH (SEE REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY RH (SEE REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL LOWER
- Disengage the 5 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel lower, then disconnect the connectors.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER
- Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel finish panel lower.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO.1
- Disengage the 4 claws and remove the instrument panel register assy No.1.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY
- Remove the 2 clips from the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy.
- Disengage the 2 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy.
- REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSY
- Remove the 3 screws.
- Pull out the combination meter assy, then disconnect the connectors.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER PANEL LH
- Using a screwdriver, open the cover of the instrument panel finish lower panel LH.

HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use to avoid damage.
- Remove the bolt < D > and the screw < H >.
- Disconnect the hood lock control cable assy.
- Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel finish lower panel LH.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Using a screwdriver, open the cover of the instrument panel finish lower panel LH.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PNL INSERT SUB-ASSY LWR LH
- Disconnect the DLC3 connector.
- Remove the 5 bolts < A > or < B > and the instrument panel insert sub-assy LWR LH.
- REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY
- Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assy.
- REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSY
- Using a moulding remover, disengage the claw and the 8 clips, and remove the console upper rear panel sub-assy.
HINT:
Set the shift lever in the N position (A/T).
- Using a moulding remover, disengage the claw and the 8 clips, and remove the console upper rear panel sub-assy.
- REMOVE CONSOLE BOX SUB-ASSY REAR W/CONSOLE DOOR
- Remove the 2 bolts < C > and the 2 screws < H >.
- Disengage the 2 claws and remove the console box sub-assy rear w/console door.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER
- Disengage the 4 clips and remove the console sub-assy upper.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY CENTER
- As shown in Fig 15
, push on the upper side of the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center by pushing it out from the back of the meter to make a clearance.NOTE: Perform this procedure wearing protective gloves.
- Pull the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center towards you using your fingers to disengage each clip.
- Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center.
- As shown in Fig 15
, push on the upper side of the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center by pushing it out from the back of the meter to make a clearance.
- REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION PANEL ASSY (W/O NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (SEE RADIO RECEIVER ASSY )
- REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION PANEL ASSY (W/NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (SEE NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSY )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY NO.1
- Disengage the 3 claws, pull the instrument panel under cover sub-assy No.1 in the direction indicated by the arrow, and remove it.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER PANEL RH
- Remove the bolt < D > and the 4 screws < H >.
- Disengage the claw and remove the clip and the instrument panel finish lower panel RH.
- REMOVE CONSOLE BOX FRONT
- Remove the 3 screws < H > and 2 nuts < I >.
- Disengage the 2 claws and remove the console box front.
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (SEE REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (SEE REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSY (SEE FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSY NO.2 (SEE FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY )
- REMOVE FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY (SEE FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY )
- REMOVE GLOVE BOX LAMP ASSY
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO.3
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD CAP
- Using a screwdriver, remove the instrument panel safety pad cap.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use to avoid damage.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the instrument panel safety pad cap.
- DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR (SEE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY
- Remove the bolts < B > < E >, screws < F > < G > or < H > and nut < I > as shown in Fig 21 below.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Pull the instrument panel safety pad towards you and check that none of the wire harnesses are stuck in the body.
- REMOVE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD CAP (MANUAL AIR CONDITIONING)
- REMOVE COOLER (SOLAR SENSOR) THERMISTOR (AUTO AIR CONDITIONING)
- REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO.1
- Remove the screw < G > or < H > and the side defroster nozzle duct No. 1.
- REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO.2
- Remove the screw < G > or < H > and the side defroster nozzle duct No.2.
- REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSY
- Remove the 5 screws < G > or < H > and the defroster nozzle assy.
- REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.1
- Remove the 3 screws < G > or < H > and the heater to register duct No.1.
- REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE GARNISH NO.1
- REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE NO.1
- REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE NO.2
- REMOVE INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIR BAG ASSY (SEE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY
- INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY
- Using a torque wrench, install the bolt < E >.
Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)
- Install the instrument panel safety pad sub-assy with the bolts < B > < E >, screws < F > < G > or < H > and nut < I >.
- Using a torque wrench, install the bolt < E >.
- ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY (SEE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS )
- INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY (SEE OVERHAUL )
- INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSY (SEE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS )
- CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
- PERFORM INITIALIZATION (SEE INITIALIZATION )
- INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSY (SEE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS )
- INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (SEE INSPECTION PROCEDURE )
