Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-ASSY: Replacement

  1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT 

    HINT:

    The bolts, screws and nuts necessary for installation and removal of the instrument panel are illustrated below and alphabetically coded. Fig 1

  2. PRECAUTION (SEE  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
  3. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL (SEE  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
  4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2 
  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.3 
  6. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY (SEE  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
  7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 

    SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)

  8. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LWR (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
  9. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
  10. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSY W/SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors.
    2. Remove the 3 screws and the turn signal switch assy w/ spiral cable sub-assy.

  11. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  12. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  13. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY LH (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  14. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY RH (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  15. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL LOWER 
    1. Disengage the 5 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel lower, then disconnect the connectors.

  16. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE 
  17. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER 
    1. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel finish panel lower.

  18. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO.1 
    1. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the instrument panel register assy No.1.

  19. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 clips from the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy.
    2. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy.

  20. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Remove the 3 screws.
    2. Pull out the combination meter assy, then disconnect the connectors.

  21. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER PANEL LH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, open the cover of the instrument panel finish lower panel LH.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use to avoid damage.

    2. Remove the bolt < D > and the screw < H >.

    3. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assy.
    4. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel finish lower panel LH.
    5. Disconnect the connectors.
  22. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PNL INSERT SUB-ASSY LWR LH 
    1. Disconnect the DLC3 connector.
    2. Remove the 5 bolts < A > or < B > and the instrument panel insert sub-assy LWR LH.

  23. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assy.

  24. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSY 
    1. Using a moulding remover, disengage the claw and the 8 clips, and remove the console upper rear panel sub-assy.

      HINT:

      Set the shift lever in the N position (A/T).

  25. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX SUB-ASSY REAR W/CONSOLE DOOR 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts < C > and the 2 screws < H >.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the console box sub-assy rear w/console door.

    3. Disconnect the connectors.
  26. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER 
    1. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the console sub-assy upper.
    2. Disconnect the connectors.

  27. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY CENTER 
    1. As shown in Fig 15 , push on the upper side of the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center by pushing it out from the back of the meter to make a clearance.
      NOTE: Perform this procedure wearing protective gloves.

    2. Pull the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center towards you using your fingers to disengage each clip.

    3. Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center.
  28. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION PANEL ASSY (W/O NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (SEE  RADIO RECEIVER ASSY  ) 
  29. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION PANEL ASSY (W/NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (SEE  NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSY  ) 
  30. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY NO.1 
    1. Disengage the 3 claws, pull the instrument panel under cover sub-assy No.1 in the direction indicated by the arrow, and remove it.

  31. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER PANEL RH 
    1. Remove the bolt < D > and the 4 screws < H >.
    2. Disengage the claw and remove the clip and the instrument panel finish lower panel RH.

  32. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX FRONT 
    1. Remove the 3 screws < H > and 2 nuts < I >.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the console box front.

  33. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  34. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  35. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSY (SEE  FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY  ) 
  36. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSY NO.2 (SEE  FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY  ) 
  37. REMOVE FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY (SEE  FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY  ) 
  38. REMOVE GLOVE BOX LAMP ASSY 
  39. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO.3 
  40. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD CAP 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the instrument panel safety pad cap.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use to avoid damage.

  41. DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR (SEE  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
  42. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY 
    1. Remove the bolts < B > < E >, screws < F > < G > or < H > and nut < I > as shown in Fig 21 below.

    2. Disconnect the connectors.
    3. Pull the instrument panel safety pad towards you and check that none of the wire harnesses are stuck in the body.
  43. REMOVE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR 
  44. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD CAP (MANUAL AIR CONDITIONING) 
  45. REMOVE COOLER (SOLAR SENSOR) THERMISTOR (AUTO AIR CONDITIONING) 
  46. REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO.1 
    1. Remove the screw < G > or < H > and the side defroster nozzle duct No. 1.

  47. REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO.2 
    1. Remove the screw < G > or < H > and the side defroster nozzle duct No.2.

  48. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSY 
    1. Remove the 5 screws < G > or < H > and the defroster nozzle assy.

  49. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.1 
    1. Remove the 3 screws < G > or < H > and the heater to register duct No.1.

  50. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE GARNISH NO.1 
  51. REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE NO.1 
  52. REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE NO.2 
  53. REMOVE INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIR BAG ASSY (SEE  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
  54. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY 
  55. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY 
    1. Using a torque wrench, install the bolt < E >.

      Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

    2. Install the instrument panel safety pad sub-assy with the bolts < B > < E >, screws < F > < G > or < H > and nut < I >.

  56. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY (SEE  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
  57. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
  58. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSY (SEE  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
  59. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL 
  60. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (SEE  INITIALIZATION  ) 
  61. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSY (SEE  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
  62. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (SEE  INSPECTION PROCEDURE  )
