Shift Lock System: Inspection

  1. INSPECT KEY INTER LOCK SOLENOID 
    1. Measure the resistance of the solenoid.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      5 (SLS+) - 4 (SLS-) 20 to 27 Ω

      If the result is not as specified, replace the solenoid.

    2. Apply positive (+) battery voltage between the terminals. Check that sounds are emitted from the operating solenoid.

      If sounds are not emitted, replace the solenoid.

      HINT:

      If sounds are not emitted from the solenoid, the solenoid is not operating.

  2. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK CONTROL SWITCH 
    1. Measure the resistance of the switch.

    Standard resistance 

    RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

    Tester Connection Shift Lever Position Specified Condition
    3(P1) - 2(P) P (shift lock release button is not pushed Below 1 Ω
    3(P1) - 2(P) P (shift lock release button is pushed Below 1 Ω
    1(P2) - 2(P) R, N, D, 2, L Below 1 Ω

    If the result is not as specified, replace the switch.

  3. INSPECT KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID 
    1. Measure the resistance of the solenoid.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      1 (KLS-) - 2 (KLS+) 12 to 17 Ω

      If the result is not as specified, replace the key interlock solenoid.

    2. Connect the battery's positive (+) terminal to terminal 2 (KLS+) and the battery's negative (-) terminal to terminal 1 (KLS-). Check that sounds are emitted from the operating solenoid. If sounds are not emitted, replace the solenoid.

    HINT:

    If sounds are not emitted from the solenoid, the solenoid is not operating.
