Steering Column Assembly: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 

    HINT:

  2. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

    HINT:

  4. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL LH 
  5. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH (for TMC Made)  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH (for TMMK Made)  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE NO. 2 LOWER STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE NO. 3 LOWER STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE STEERING PAD  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.
    2. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering main shaft.
    3. Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable.
    4. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

      SST 09950-50013 (09951 -05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05031)

  14. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.

    3. Disengage the claw to remove the upper steering column cover.

  15. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
    2. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

  16. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the No. 1 air duct.

  17. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (for TMC Made) 
    1. Remove the clamp from the steering column hole shield.

    2. Remove the bolt and slide the steering intermediate shaft assembly.
      NOTE: Do not separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly.

    3. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering link assembly.

    4. Separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly.
    5. Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps from the steering column assembly.
    6. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts, and the steering column assembly.

  18. REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY (for TMMK Made) 
    1. Remove the clamp from the steering column hole shield.

    2. Remove the bolt and slide the steering sliding yoke.
      NOTE: Do not separate the steering sliding yoke from the power steering link assembly.

    3. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke and the power steering link assembly.

    4. Separate the steering sliding yoke from the power steering link assembly.
    5. Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps from the steering column assembly.
    6. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts, and the steering post assembly.

  19. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for TMC Made) 
    1. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering column assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt and the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.
