Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Toyota Camry Solara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • Turn the ignition switch off before measuring the resistance of the CAN main wires and CAN branch wires.
  • After the ignition switch is turned off, check that the key reminder warning system and light reminder warning system are not operating.
  • Before measuring the resistance, leave the vehicle as is for at least 1 minute and do not operate the ignition switch, any other switches or the doors. If doors need to be opened in order to check connectors, open the doors and leave them open.

HINT:

Operating the ignition switch, any other switches, or any doors triggers related ECU and sensor communication on the CAN. This communication will cause the resistance value to change.

  1. CHECK CAN BUS WIRE (MAIN BUS LINE FOR DISCONNECTION, BUS LINES FOR SHORT CIRCUIT)
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

CAN BUS WIRE (MAIN BUS LINE FOR DISCONNECTION, BUS LINES FOR SHORT CIRCUIT)

Tester Connection Condition Specified Value Result
      D3-6 (CANH) - D3-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 54 to 69 Ω OK
      D3-6 (CANH) - D3-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 69 Ω or higher NG-A
      D3-6 (CANH) - D3-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off Below 54 Ω NG-B

NG-A: CHECK CAN BUS MAIN WIRE (FOR DISCONNECTION)

NG-B: CHECK CAN BUS WIRE (FOR SHORT CIRCUIT)

    OK: Go to next step

  2. CHECK CAN BUS WIRE (FOR SHORT TO +B)
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

CAN BUS WIRE (FOR SHORT TO +B)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Value
D3-6 (CANH) - D3-16 (BAT) Ignition switch off 6 kΩ or higher
D3-14 (CANL) - D3-16 (BAT) Ignition switch off 6 kΩ or higher

NG: CHECK CAN BUS WIRE (FOR SHORT TO +B)

    OK: Go to next step

  3. CHECK CAN BUS WIRE (FOR SHORT TO GND)
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

CAN BUS WIRE (FOR SHORT TO GND)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Value
      D3-4 (CG) - D3-6 (CANH) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or higher
      D3-4 (CG) - D3-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or higher
