Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK FUSES (RR DEF) 
    1. Remove the fusible link block assembly (RR DEF) from the engine room relay block.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A - B (RR DEF) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE FUSIBLE LINK BLOCK ASSEMBLY (RR DEF FUSE) 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  2. INSPECT DEFOGGER RELAY (Marking: RR DEF) 
    1. Remove the defogger relay (Marking: RR DEF) from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - 4 Voltage is not applied between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω
      3 - 4 Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 5 Voltage is not applied between terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 5 Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE DEFOGGER RELAY (Marking: RR DEF) 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM 
    1. Select the ACTIVE TEST, use Techstream to issue a control command, and then check the window defogger operation.

      Air Conditioner: 

      ACTIVE TEST DETAIL - AIR CONDITIONER

      Defogger Relay (Rear) Rear window defogger OFF/ON -

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The window defogger system does not operate normally when operating it through Techstream. A

    A:  Go to step  7

    B: Go to next step. 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (LIN COMMUNICATION LINE) 
    1. Disconnect the D37 air conditioning amplifier connector.
    2. Disconnect the E10 air conditioning control connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D37-37 (LIN1) - E10-5 (LIN1) Always Below 1 Ω
      D37-37 (LIN1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  5. REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY 
    1. for Automatic Air Conditioning System
      1. Replace the air conditioning control assembly (See REMOVAL ).
    2. for Manual Air Conditioning System
      1. Replace the air conditioning control assembly (See REMOVAL ).
  6. CONFIRM REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER OPERATION 
    1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG), press the defogger switch, and check that the window defogger operates.

      OK: Window defogger system operates normally 

    NG: REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: END 

  7. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM 
    1. Select the ACTIVE TEST, use Techstream to issue a control command, and then check the window defogger operation.

      Air Conditioner: 

      ACTIVE TEST DETAIL - AIR CONDITIONER

      Defogger Relay (Rear) Rear window defogger OFF/ON -
    2. Check that operation sound of the DEFOGGER relay (Marking: RR DEF) is heard.

      Result

      Relay operating sound is not heard B

    A:  Go to step  10

    B: Go to next step. 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY - ENGINE ROOM RELAY BLOCK) 
    1. Disconnect the D37 air conditioning amplifier connector.
    2. Disconnect the defogger relay (Marking: RR DEF) engine room relay block.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D37-38 (RDFG) - 2 Always Below 1 Ω
      D37-38 (RDFG) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RDFG TERMINAL BATTERY VOLTAGE) 
    1. Reconnect the defogger relay (Marking: RR DEF) engine room relay block.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      D37-38 (RDFG) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  (See TERMINALS OF ECU  )

    OK: REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRE - ENGINE ROOM RELAY BLOCK) 
    1. w/ Glass Hatch Opener
      1. Disconnect the Y2 connector.
      2. Remove the defogger relay (Marking: RR DEF) from the engine room relay block.
      3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        Y2-1 - 2F-5 Always Below 1 Ω
        Y2-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    2. w/o Glass Hatch Opener
      1. Disconnect the T12 connector.
      2. Remove the defogger relay (Marking: RR DEF) from the engine room relay block.
      3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        T12-1 - 2F-5 Always Below 1 Ω
        T12-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRE BATTERY POSITIVE) 
    1. w/ Glass Hatch Opener
      1. Reconnect the defogger relay (Marking: RR DEF) from the engine room relay block.
      2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard voltage 

        VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION TABLE

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        Y2-1 - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) Rear window defogger switch on 11 to 14 V

    2. w/o Glass Hatch Opener
      1. Reconnect the defogger relay (Marking: RR DEF) from the engine room relay block.
      2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard voltage

        T12-1 - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) Rear window defogger switch on 11 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRE CONNECTOR BODY GROUND) 
    1. w/ Glass Hatch Opener
      1. Disconnect the Y2 connector.
      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        Y2-1 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    2. w/o Glass Hatch Opener
      1. Disconnect the T11 connector.
      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance

    OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRE
