Inspection Procedure
- CHECK STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION
- Check that the stop light comes on when the brake pedal is depressed, and goes off when the brake pedal is released.
OK:
Stop light switch function is normal.
HINT:
Check the stop light bulb as it may have burnt out.
NG: Go to step 9
OK: Go to next step
- Check that the stop light comes on when the brake pedal is depressed, and goes off when the brake pedal is released.
- INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (STP TERMINAL)
- Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage
VOLTAGE REFERENCETester Connection Condition Specified Condition S28-7 (STP) - Body ground Stop light switch ON (Brake pedal depressed) 8 to 14 V S28-7 (STP) - Body ground Stop light switch OFF (Brake pedal released) Below 1.5 V NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STP CIRCUIT)
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (STP2 TERMINAL)
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (STOP LIGHT OPERATION RELAY)
- Reconnect the skid control ECU connector.
- Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream main switch ON.
- Select "Active Test" mode on Techstream.
ABS/VSC/TRAC
ACTIVE TEST REFERENCETester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Stop Light Relay Operates stop light operation relay ON/OFF Observe rear combination light (Does not stay on for 5 sec. or more) - Check that the stop light in the rear combination light turns on and off when the stop light operation relay is turned on and off using Techstream.
OK:
The stop light turns on or off in accordance with Techstream.
OK: Go to step 8
NG: Go to next step
- INSPECT STOP LIGHT OPERATION RELAY (POWER SOURCE TERMINAL)
- Remove the stop light operation relay.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage
VOLTAGE REFERENCETester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 8 to 14 V 5 - Body ground Always 8 to 14 V NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)

OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT STOP LIGHT OPERATION RELAY
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance
TESTER CONNECTION CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 - 4 Battery voltage is not applied to terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω 3 - 5 Battery voltage Is not applied to terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 4 Battery positive voltage Is applied to terminal 1 and battery negative voltage to terminal 2 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 5 Battery positive voltage Is applied to terminal 1 and battery negative voltage to terminal 2 Below 1 Ω NG: REPLACE STOP LIGHT OPERATION RELAY
OK: Go to next step
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (STPO TERMINAL)
- Install the stop light operation relay.
- Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage
VOLTAGE REFERENCETester Connection Condition Specified Condition S28-16 (STPO) - Body ground Always 10 to 14 V NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STPO CIRCUIT)
OK: Go to next step
- RECONFIRM DTC

B: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (See CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS )
A: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (See DISASSEMBLY )
- INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (POWER SOURCE TERMINAL)
- Disconnect the stop light switch connector.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

w/o Rear Spoiler

- Remove the stop light operation relay.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
