INTRODUCTION

Some vehicles with the Southeast Toyota keyless entry system (P/N: 00016-32901) may exhibit a condition where one or both of the remote keyless transmitters become inoperative. There is an updated control module to correct the condition of the keyless transmitters intermittently losing programming.

For Dealers located in the Southeast Region, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, or North Carolina, Submit Warranty claim utilizing the information below.

Port Installed Option (PIO)  - is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles from the vehicle's in-service date, whichever occurs first. Unless otherwise specified in vehicle VIN inquiry  .
Dealer Installed Option (DIO)  - is in effect for 12 months, regardless of mileage, from the date the part(s) was installed on the vehicle or the remainder of any applicable New Vehicle Limited Warranty, whichever provides greater coverage.
Over the Counter Sale (OCS)  - is in effect for 12 months, regardless of mileage, from the date the part(s) were sold. Labor is not warranted for over-the counter service part replacements.

REPAIR PROCESS

Procedure A-Check Transmitter

Press the lock button on the keychain transmitter while observing the LED in the upper right.

  • LED illuminates brightly, go to PROCEDURE B-INSPECT MODULE .
  • If the LED does NOT illuminate or appears dim:
    1. Remove the Philips screw on the rear of the transmitter case to access the battery.
    2. Inspect the transmitter for any signs of water intrusion or corrosion. Transmitters found to show signs of water damage or corrosion should be replaced.
      NOTE: Damage from water intrusion is not a warrantable condition. Warranty returns showing signs of this condition are subject to denial of warranty claim.

  • If no signs of water intrusion were found, Check battery voltage:
    1. Using a multi-meter, place the RED probe on the (+) terminal and the BLACK probe on the (-) terminal.
    2. Press and HOLD the LOCK button on the transmitter. Record the voltage reading while holding the button.
    3. Replace the battery if reading is less than 11.1 volts.

Procedure B-Inspect Module

  1. Reference Accessory Installation instructions for Vehicle to obtain access to the Keyless Entry Main Control Module.
  2. Inspect the last digit in the 18 digit bar code label on the back side of the module currently installed in the vehicle.

    • Last digit of the bar code is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4.
      1. Replace the module
      2. Reprogram the existing transmitters. It is not necessary to replace the transmitters for this condition. PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE  of this document.
      NOTE: Returned transmitters are subject to inspection upon parts return and may result in denied warranty claims if transmitters function properly during inspection.
    • Last digit of the bar code 5 or 6, Open a TAS case and contact a Southeast Toyota TAS agent for further instructions. DO NOT attempt to reprogram any transmitters.

PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you enter the programming mode, if 30 seconds elapse with no activity on the system, the programming mode will be terminated. If this happens, simply start over. 

STEP 1 

To get started, disarm the module by first locating the silver toggle switch in the driver's kick panel.

  1. 1. Insert the key into the ignition key cylinder and turn to the ON position

  2. 3. Flip the toggle switch ON, then OFF.

STEP 2 

Turn the vehicle's ignition key ON then OFF 7 times at 1 second intervals.....

....Ending in the OFF position. 

The vehicle will respond by sounding the horn in a SHORT-LONG pattern to confirm you have entered programming mode. 

STEP 3 

Press the Lock button on the transmitter. The horn will chirp to confirm it has learned the transmitter. 

STEP 4 

Repeat Step 3 for all transmitters that you need to program to operate the vehicle. 

(Maximum of 4 transmitters per vehicle) 

STEP 5 

When all transmitters have been programmed, turn the ignition key ON then OFF to exit the program mode. 

The vehicle will respond by sounding the horn in a SHORT-SHORT-LONG pattern to confirm programming mode has been termindated.

The programming mode will automatically terminate after 30 seconds of inactivity. This will be confirmed by the horn sounding a SHORT-SHORT-LONG pattern. If this happens, start over at step 1 to program transmitters.
