On-Vehicle Inspection [12/2018 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAK 
    1. Check fuel pump operation.
      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
      2. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
        NOTE:

        Do not start the engine.

      3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the Circuit Relay.

        Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

        Active Test Display
        Activate the Circuit Relay
        Data List Display
        Fuel Pump/Speed Status
      4. Check for pressure in the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel line. Check that sounds of fuel flowing from the fuel tank assembly can be heard. If no sound can be heard, check the fuel pump, ECM and wiring connectors.
    2. Inspect for fuel leaks.
      1. Check that there are no fuel leaks from the fuel system after doing any maintenance or repairs. If there is a fuel leak, repair or replace parts as necessary.
    3. Turn the power switch off.
    4. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.
  2. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE 
    1. Discharge the fuel system pressure.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PRECAUTION [12/2018 - ] 

    2. Remove the front wiper motor and link assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2015 - ]

    3. Remove the No. 1 heater air duct splash shield seal.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

    4. Remove the water guard plate LH.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

    5. Remove the cowl body mounting reinforcement LH.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

    6. Remove the outer cowl top panel sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

    7. Measure the auxiliary battery voltage.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Positive (+) auxiliary battery terminal - Negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal Power switch off 11 to 14 V
    8. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2018 - 08/2019] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2019 - 07/2020] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [07/2020 - ]

    9. Open the cover of the fuel pipe clamp and remove the fuel pipe clamp from the fuel tube connector.

    10. Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pipe.

      HINT:

    11. Install SST (EFI fuel pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.

    12. Wipe up any spilled fuel.
    13. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2018 - 08/2019] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2019 - 07/2020] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [07/2020 - ]

    14. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    15. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
      NOTE:

      Do not start the engine.

    16. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the Circuit Relay.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Active Test Display
      Activate the Circuit Relay
      Data List Display
      Fuel Pump/Speed Status
    17. Measure the fuel pressure.

      Standard Fuel Pressure

      Item Specified Condition
      Fuel pressure 304 to 343 kPa
      Fuel pressure 3.1 to 3.5 kgf/cm2
      Fuel pressure 44 to 50 psi
      • If the fuel pressure is more than the standard, replace the fuel pressure regulator assembly.
      • If the fuel pressure is less than the standard, check the fuel hoses and their connections, fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator assembly.
    18. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.
    19. Put the engine in inspection mode (maintenance mode).

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Utility 

      Tester Display
      Inspection Mode
    20. Start the engine.
    21. Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

      Standard Fuel Pressure

      Item Specified Condition
      Fuel pressure 304 to 343 kPa
      Fuel pressure 3.1 to 3.5 kgf/cm2
      Fuel pressure 44 to 50 psi

      HINT: 

      Refer to Standard Idle Speed.

    22. Stop the engine.
    23. Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes.

      Standard Fuel Pressure

      Item Condition Specified Condition
      Fuel pressure 5 minutes 147 kPa or higher
      Fuel pressure 5 minutes 1.5 kgf/cm2 or higher
      Fuel pressure 5 minutes 21 psi or higher

      If the result is not as specified, check the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator assembly and/or fuel injector assemblies.

    24. After checking the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and carefully remove SST to prevent fuel from spraying.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2018 - 08/2019] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2019 - 07/2020] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [07/2020 - ]

    25. Connect the fuel tube sub-assembly to the fuel pipe.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PRECAUTION [12/2018 - ] 

    26. Install the fuel pipe clamp to the fuel tube connector and close the cover of the fuel pipe clamp.
    27. Inspect for fuel leaks.

      HINT: 

      See step  1

    28. Install the outer cowl top panel sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16

    29. Install the cowl body mounting reinforcement LH.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17

    30. Install the water guard plate LH.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 18

    31. Install the No. 1 heater air duct splash shield seal.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 19

    32. Install the front wiper motor and link assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to INSTALLATION [11/2015 - ]
