Tire Pressure Monitoring System Description And Function
TPMS System Components:
- TPMS pressure sensors (1 at each wheel)
- Body control module (BCM)
- Multimedia head unit (MHU)
- Multimedia display unit (MDU)
TPMS pressure sensors (1 at each wheel)
Technical Description:
The vehicle is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS ). The system uses sensors attached to the valve in each wheel to show information related to the vehicle tire pressures and air temperature. It warns if any tires are under-inflated.
The tire pressure is displayed on the screen (MDU ).
Each sensor has its own non-replaceable battery that allows it to transmit a signal to the BCM.
When the battery goes flat, you need to replace the sensor.
When a sensor is replaced, a relearn procedure is required for the BCM to find the new sensor. (See TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT AND LEARN PROCEDURE )

Operation:
MDU, multimedia display unit:
To view the tire pressures, swipe across on the vehicle display.
If no issue or missing signal is detected, vehicle health status is declared as error free.
If an issue or missing sensor signal is detected, this is shown in the warning messages.
Examples of warning messages
- If an issue or missing sensor signal is detected, this will be displayed on the touchscreen.
An audible alarm will be generated at the same time.
- Examples of different tire pressure information
Warning notification
TPMS system warns the driver if the tire pressure is below or above the recommended pressure. If an issue or missing sensor signal is detected, a TPMS alert symbol will be displayed on the Infotainment display. Also, an alert popup will be shown on the screen and an audible alarm will be generated at the same time.
A warning message from an ECU can induce the following notifications:
- Warning message on MDU
- Tell-tale/indicator on MDU
- Warning sound
- Warning message notifications contain a warning symbol and the message title
- Push the notification to expand the message
- To close a notification, push the cross on the upper right corner
Operation Steps
- How do you recognize the tire pressure? TPMS is designed to help detect when one or more tire is significantly under-inflated. When this occurs, the TPMS indicator on the instrument panel is illuminated, and a message is shown on MDU, indicating which tire is under-inflated.
- Check tire pressure manually at least once a month when the tires are cool. Be sure to use an accurate digital tire pressure gauge. Once the tire is inflated back to the proper pressure, the TPMS indicator should turn off, but you might have to drive at least a few minutes before the TPMS system resets, and the warning is no longer illuminated. - System reporting
- If the tire pressure has been changed but the TPMS indicator remains illuminated after inflating your tire, consult your official local dealer.
- The sensor must be replaced, and the relearn procedure performed. (See TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT AND LEARN PROCEDURE )
- The vehicle must be driven for a few minutes for TPMS to register.
Resetting/Relearning of TPMS sensors
After a tire change including sensor change, a relearn will be required (See TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT AND LEARN PROCEDURE )
