- Connect vacuum pump to vacuum advance diaphragm and apply 20 in. Hg of vacuum. Vacuum may drop 4 in. Hg within 1 minute. Replace diaphragm if it leaks excessively. Connect timing light to engine. Start and run engine at idle.
- Ensure that ignition advance is 10° at idle. Apply 6 in. Hg of vacuum, ignition timing should be 18-23°. Increase vacuum to 7 in. Hg. Ignition timing should be 25-30°. Increase vacuum to 9 in. Hg. Ignition timing should be 28-32°. If ignition timing is not as specified, remove distributor and bench test.
