Mechanical Inspection: Compression
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 1998 Volvo V90, 1998 Volvo V70, 1998 Volvo S90, 1998 Volvo S70, and 1997 Volvo V90. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Check engine mechanical condition using a compression gauge, vacuum gauge or engine analyzer. See engine analyzer manual for specific instructions.
WARNING:
Do not use ignition switch during compression tests on fuel injected vehicles. Use a remote starter to crank engine. Fuel injectors on many models are triggered by ignition switch during cranking mode, which can create a fire hazard or contaminate engine oiling system.
