This document is updated with an additional note regarding SRS DTCs in 5 seater XC90 vehicles.

CSC = Customer Symptom Code

SRS = Supplemental Restraint System

DESCRIPTION

Volvo Cars of North America is now offering complimentary software updates on the vehicles listed in the header when performing service. The offer includes the following:

DIM (Drivers information Module)

CEM Central Electronics module)

TCM (automatic transmission)

ECM (engine Control Module)

CCM (climate control module)

ICM (Infotainment Control Module)*

ETM (electronic Throttle Module) P2X only

REM (Rear Electronic Module) P2X only

NOTE:
  • * The ICM will NOT be upgraded on XC60 and the all new S60.
  • Not all nodes on the CAN network will be updated

Please observe! 

  1. Non-Volvo SW such as engine management SW provided by the aftermarket will be overwritten when updating.
  2. Certain customer specified settings will be reset back to default values after a SWDL. These settings include:
    • Personal settings contained in the ICM (infotainment control module) menu. -settings accomplished via VIDA: diagnostics / vehicle communication / node xxx / advanced.  These settings are referred to as "block offsets"
    • Seat and mirror memory positions and the clock.

SERVICE

At every service opportunity and with the customer's permission download the appropriate Software Product in the above chart.

The procedure shall be as follows:

  1. Read out and record the customer settings and block offset values. A checklist for each platform type has been provided in the attachments.. 
  2. Download the appropriate Software Product in the above chart. 
  3. Restore the customer settings and block offset values read out in step 1 above. 
  4. Perform any initializations as normally required after a SWDL such as windows, sunroof, etc... VIDA will typically provide a "pop up" message when these are required. 
  5. Reset the Clock and the customer's radio presets as necessary. 
    NOTE:
    • Some 5 seater XC90 vehicles may have DTCs present in the SRS control unit after the above procedure. To correct this, configure the 'number of seats' using the Diagnostics->Vehicle Communication->SRS->Advanced tab in VIDA (example attached).
    • The software products listed above are not eligible for warranty use unless specifically stated elsewhere.
    • The software products listed above are not to be used to perform a repair, or in conjunction with a component replacement or as a substitute for a "reload" unless specifically stated elsewhere.
    • The software products above are only available to authorized Volvo retailers.
    • The above software products should not be loaded within a week of a planned or needed state vehicle inspection as they may reset the readiness flags in the ECM.
