Engine/transmission, removing: Preparation: Notes

NOTE:

Do not empty the air conditioning (A/C system). When lowering the engine and sub-frame, remove the A/C compressor from the engine and hang it from a hook on the car.

Remove the battery cables. First read Battery, disconnecting .

Set the wheels to the straight forward position and lock the steering wheel lock.

Remove the engine cover.

Remove the torque rod according to Replacing the torque rod .

Remove the plus cable coming from the starter motor at the connection on the left wheel housing tower.

Turn the belt tensioner counter-clockwise with an open wrench.

Remove the auxiliary unit belt.

Raise the car and remove both front wheels.

Remove the drive shaft screw on the right and left side.

Use a screwdriver as counterhold in the brake disc.

NOTE:

Ensure that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.

Remove

On one side, measure the length of the tie rod in relation to the steering gear housing. Note the measurement.

Removing the screw and nut for the soundproofing (applies to both sides). Move the soundproofing to one side. Push part of the fender liner to one side. Secure the fender liner in the open position.

Raise the car.

Remove the screw for the joint between the steering gear and the steering shaft.

Press the joint up from the steering shaft.

Remove the nuts from the ball joints. Counterhold using a Torx wrench so that the ball joint boot is not damaged.

Remove the anti-roll bar links from the anti-roll bar. Counterhold using a Torx wrench so that the ball joint gaiter is not damaged.

Drain the coolant from the engine and the radiator. See Draining /filling with coolant .

NOTE:

The protective covers under the radiator and engine must not be reinstalled after the coolant has been drained.

Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator.

Only automatic transmission 

Remove the lower oil cooler hose from the left side of the radiator.

Drain the oil from the radiator into a container.

Loosen the screw for the cable conduit.

Cars with air conditioning (A/C) only 

NOTE:

Do not empty the air conditioning (A/C) system.

Remove the four screws for the A/C compressor from the engine.

Remove the electric connection to the compressor.

NOTE:

Hang the A/C compressor in a wire when the engine is being lowered.

Remove the connector from the receiver drier for the A/C. This is positioned on the right-hand side of the radiator.

Remove the fuel line from the engine block heater and at the joint from the tank with tool 9995666 .

Drain any fuel from the line into a container.

Remove the engine block heater from the three sub-frame screws and from the connector above the engine block heater.

Hang up the engine block heater in a hook in the sub-frame.

The engine block heater is lowered together with the engine.

Remove the ground lead from under the air cleaner (ACL) housing.

Part the big connector on the air filter bracket.

Loosen the vacuum line along the air filter bracket and part it at the joint.

Remove the charge-air hose from the intercooler and from the inlet pipe.

Warm the charge air pipe connector using a hot-air gun. This will make removal easier.

Remove

Remove the engine coolant hose from the cowl panel.

Turn the front section of the terminal to the left while pulling the hose backward.

NOTE:

Drain any excess coolant into a container.

Remove the exhaust pipe from the turbocharger (TC) and hang the pipe against the cowl panel.

Manual transmissions 

Remove the transmission cable from the transmission and the clutch connection. See Transmission, removing .

Hang up the cable(s) in the car so that they do not go with the engine when it is lowered.

Automatic transmission 

Remove the gear cable from the automatic transmission according to Gearbox, removing .

Hang the cable in the car so that it does not follow with the engine when the engine is lowered

Remove the electric cooling fan according to Replacing the engine cooling fan (FC) .

Remove both control modules and the cabling from the control module box according to Transmission control module (TCM), replacing .

Remove the cabling from the engine in the control module box Central electrical unit, engine compartment, replacing .

Remove the ground cable in the body on the right wheel housing edge.
