Connecting Breakout Box, Transmission Control Module (TCM) [2017-2018, TG-81SC AWD]
CONNECTING BREAKOUT BOX, TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM)
Special tools:
Special Tool: 951 3055 TCM adapter
Special Tool: 951 1428 Breakout box
Avoid touching control module connector pins and associated cable harness connectors. There is risk of electrostatic discharge, which could cause damage in the control module. Discharge yourself and the tools to be used by holding the metal part of the tool and at the same time touch a part of the body immediately before starting to work.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Visually check the connectors to ensure that the male and female terminals are not damaged and that the cables for the female halves are properly connected. In particular, check the terminal pins relevant to the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or symptom.
The breakout box is designed for easier reading of:
- control module's output and input signals when the control module is connected.
- leads' and components' resistance, when the control module is disconnected.
Using the breakout box reduces the risk of short-circuiting leads and damaging pins in the connectors.
EXPOSING THE CONTROL MODULE
- Ensure that the Ignition is off. Wait until the gear selector indication or illumination goes off (it usually takes approx. 7 seconds). If the gear selector indication or illumination does not light up initially due to a fault, wait 3 minutes after the ignition has been switched off.
- Expose the transmission control module (TCM) according to: Transmission NOTE:
When measuring on the connector A (not against the transmission itself), then the transmission control module (TCM) does not have to be disconnected from the transmission. If the control module is not disconnected, no calibration is needed.
CONNECTING THE BREAKOUT BOX
- Connect the adapter Special Tool: 951 3055 TCM adapter to connector A and B on the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and connect the breakout box Special Tool: 951 1428 Breakout box to the adapter.
- For connector A, terminals #A1 - #A28 correspond to terminals #A1 - #A28 on the breakout box.
- For connector B, terminals #B1-#B33 correspond to terminals #B1-#B33 on the breakout box.
