Lighting System Diagnostic System Check
NOTE:
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) module may as be referred to as Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition on. Try to establish scan tool communication with Body Control Module (BCM), Drivers Door Module (DDM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR). If communication with BCM, DDM, IPC, PCM and RCDLR is established, go to next step. If communication with BCM, DDM, IPC, PCM and RCDLR is not established, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Access the Class 2 Power Mode in the diagnostic circuit check on the scan tool. Rotate ignition switch through all positions while observing ignition switch power mode parameter. If ignition switch parameter readings match ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If ignition switch parameter readings do not match ignition switch position for all switch positions, repair voltage input to body control module as necessary. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTC function for BCM, DDM, IPC, PCM and RCDLR. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, diagnose lighting system by symptom.
- If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If scan tool does not display DTC B1652, B1656, B1657 or B1658, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1652, B1656, B1657 or B1658, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
- If scan tool displays DTCs B0802 or B0803, repair shift interlock system as necessary. See appropriate SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. If scan tool does not display DTCs B0802 or B0803, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
NOTE:
The engine may start during the following step. Turn engine off as soon as you have observed the Crank power mode.
