Installation Procedure
Steering Column (2) - Install
- Support the steering column.
- Steering Column Upper Support Bracket Nut (1) - Install, but do NOT tighten [2x]
Steering Column Lower Support Bracket Bolt (1) - Install, but do NOT tighten [2x]
- CAUTION:CAUTION:
Ensure all fasteners are securely seated before applying needed torque. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunctioning of steering column.
Tighten the 2 steering column upper support bracket nuts (1) and the 2 steering column lower support bracket bolts (2) in the sequence shown. Fastener Specifications
- Remove the support from the steering column.
- Install the instrument panel wiring harness clips to the steering column as necessary.
- Install the steering column wiring harness as necessary.
Brake and Accelerator Pedal Assembly (2) @ Vehicle - Install
- Brake Pedal Nut (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
Brake Pedal Push Rod Retainer (1) @ Brake Pedal Pushrod (3) - Install NEW
- Brake Pedal Pushrod (3) @ Brake Pedal (2) - Connect
Electrical Connector (1) @ Brake Pedal Position Sensor (2) - Connect
Body Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @ Vehicle - Install [5x]
Accelerator Pedal Assembly (2) - Install
- Accelerator Pedal Pad Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Connect the electrical connector.
Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @ Vehicle - Install
- Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @ Steering Column Shaft - Connect
- Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- NOTE:
The recess of the fine tooth in the universal joint have to be precisely aligned to the recess of the fine tooth on the steering gear pinion. The bore in the universal joint have to be aligned to the groove on the steering gear pinion.
Intermediate Steering Shaft (3) @ Steering Gear Pinion Shaft - Connect
- Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Intermediate Steering Shaft Middle Bolt (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
Floor Front Air Outlet Duct - Left Side (2) - Install
- Floor Front Air Outlet Duct Retainer (1) - Install
Headlamp Switch (1) - Install
- Secure the retaining tabs.
Instrument Panel Knee Bolster (1) - Install
- Connect the electrical connector.
Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle (1) @ Instrument Panel Knee Bolster - Install
Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover - Left Side (1) - Install
Turn Signal Switch Bracket (1) - Install
Turn Signal Switch (1) - Install
- Secure the retaining tabs.
Windshield Wiper and Windshield Washer Switch (1) - Install
- Secure the retaining tabs.
Ensure the steering wheel airbag coil (1) is CENTERED during installation. Steering Wheel Airbag Coil Centering
- Steering Wheel Airbag Coil (1) - Install
- Connect the electrical connector.
Steering Wheel (2) - Install
- Prepare the steering wheel bolt (1) for installation as follows:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers (US, Canada) , or Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers (except US, Canada)
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Steering Wheel Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Connect the electrical connector.
Connect the electrical connectors.
- Install any connector position assurance (CPA) devices or secondary locks.
- Steering Wheel Airbag (2) - Install
- Steering Wheel Airbag Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Bolt (1) - Install [3x] - Fastener Specifications
Secure the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) to the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover.
Install the 2 steering wheel airbag access hole covers (1).
- Enable the SIR System. SIR Disabling and Enabling
- Program the power steering control module. Control Module References
- Center the steering angle sensor. Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
The recess of the fine tooth in the universal joint have to be precisely aligned to the recess of the fine tooth on the steering column shaft. The bore in the universal joint have to be aligned to the groove on the steering column shaft.
