Installation Procedure
Ensure the steering wheel airbag coil is CENTERED during installation. Steering Wheel Airbag Coil Centering
- Install the turn signal switch bracket as an assembly with the turn signal switch, gear shift control module, and steering wheel airbag coil (1).
- NOTE:
Some components not shown for graphic clarity.
Engage the left and right turn signal switch bracket retaining tabs (1).
- CAUTION:
Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution .
NOTE:Do NOT remove the bolt in the turn signal switch bracket band clamp. The turn signal switch bracket will need to be replaced if the bolt from the turn signal switch bracket band clamp is fully removed.
Tighten the turn signal switch bracket band clamp (1). Fastener Specifications
Steering Column (1) - Install
- Connect the electrical connectors and install the wiring harness retainers as necessary.
Steering Column Nut - Rear (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Steering Column Nut - Front (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Steering Column Nut - Rear (1) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connector. (1)
Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft @ Steering Column - Install
- If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
- Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connector.
- Steering Wheel (1) - Install
If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:

- Steering Wheel Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connectors.
- Install any connector position assurance (CPA) devices or secondary locks.
- Steering Wheel Airbag (1) - Install
Steering Wheel Airbag Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Steering Wheel Airbag Access Hole Cover - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Install [2x]
Connect the electrical connector.
- Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover (1) - Install
Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Turn the steering wheel approximately 90 degrees to the right of the centered position.
- Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Turn the steering wheel approximately 90 degrees to the left of the centered position.
- Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Turn the steering wheel to the centered position.
Instrument Panel Steering Column Upper Trim Cover (1) - Install
Starting with the top right edge of the left instrument panel center trim pad (1) and working your way left, install the top edge under the instrument panel air outlet bezel.
Instrument Panel Trim Pad Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connectors.
- Instrument Panel Switch Trim Plate (1) - Install
Instrument Panel Switch Trim Plate Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- NOTE:
Line up flange around the front side door weatherstrip
Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover - Left Side (1) - Install
- WARNING:
When removing, handling or installing this component wear protective gloves. The sharp edges on the component may be very sharp and may cause injury.
Instrument Panel Knee Bolster (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Enable the SIR System. SIR Disabling and Enabling
After installation of the steering wheel airbag module to the steering wheel, slightly pull the module outward. If there is no give on the airbag module then it is secured correctly. If the airbag module is not fully attached personal injury could result.
