Shift Lever Assembly: Installation

1. Install shift lever assembly on steering column tilt housing. Install and tighten shift lever assembly-to-steering column tilt housing screws.
2. To install shift interlock cassette, ensure latch rotates freely on shifter gate. See Figure. Ensure shift lever is in Park and ignition key is removed from lock cylinder. Install shift interlock cable over end of latch on shift mechanism.
3. Slide shift interlock cassette into lock cylinder housing until it locks in place. To adjust shift interlock cassette, note location of adjustment tab on side of shift interlock cassette. See Figure. Fully depress adjustment tab until it stops. Ensure adjustment tab is fully depressed when adjusting shift interlock cassette. Adjustment tab will click as it moves into place and automatically adjusts.
4. Install shift cable on pin on shift lever assembly. Rotate shift cable adjuster lock into the locked position. Reinstall tilt lever and steering column covers. Ensure shift lever operates smoothly without binding. Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
