DISCUSSION:

NOTE: The Airbag Control Module (ACM) is also sometimes referred to as the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). In this document the Occupant Restraint Controller will be referred to as the ACM.

On vehicles equipped with the Occupant Classification System (OCS), never replace both the Airbag Control Module (ACM) and the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) at the same time. If both the ACM and OCM need to be replaced, the OCM should be replaced first. Then perform the supplemental restraint verification test before  replacing the ACM. Refer to the diagnostic information available in TechCONNECT under: Diagnostics, Body, Verification Tests, OCS Verification Test - VER 1.

CAUTION: Any time that either the OCM or the ACM are replaced, THE FIRST IGNITION CYCLE IN THE VEHICLE MUST BE AT LEAST 1 MINUTE. This insures all necessary communications have taken place. Both the ACM and the OCM store OCS calibration data, which they transfer to one another when one of them is replaced. If both are replaced at the same time, an irreversible fault will be set in both modules.
