Carpet Replacement

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

Put on gloves to protect your hands.
Take care not to damage, wrinkle or twist the carpet.
Be careful not to damage the dashboard or other interior trim pieces.

Remove these items:
- Front seats:
  - Driver's seat (see DRIVER'S SEAT )
  - Passenger's seat (see PASSENGER'S SEAT )
- Kick panels, both sides (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - DOOR AREAS )
- Front door sill trim, both sides (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - DOOR AREAS )
- B-pillar lower trim, both sides (see B-PILLAR UPPER/LOWER TRIM )
- Rear door sill trim, both sides (see REAR DOOR SILL AREA )
- Driver's dashboard undercover (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD UNDERCOVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Passenger's dashboard undercover (see PASSENGER'S DASHBOARD UNDERCOVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Center console (see CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Rear seat leg guide cover, both sides (see REAR SEAT LEG GUIDE REPLACEMENT )
Pull the rear seat belt buckles and rear center seat belt detachable anchor out through each band on both seat cushions. Then lift both seat cushions up.
From the bottom of the both rear seat-backs (A), release the fasteners (B) in the rear of the carpet (C). Pull the rear seat belt buckles (D) out through a slit (E) in the buckle anchor carpet (F), then pull the carpet out from both cargo area side trim panels.

Remove the front portion of the carpet (A):
1. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector (B).
2. Release the hooks (C) of the rear heater upper duct.
3. Release the fasteners (D) under the dashboard.
  Pull the front middle edge of the carpet out from under the heater unit to release the fastener (E).

Remove the carpet.
Install the carpet in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Take care not to damage, wrinkle or twist the carpet.
- Make sure the seat harnesses (F) are routed correctly.
- Slip the slit in the carpet over the hooks of the rear heater upper duct.
- Slip the carpet under both cargo area side trim panels properly.
- Insert the front middle edge of the carpet under the heater unit from both sides correctly so as not to make wrinkles or slack in the carpet.
