Dashboard Replacement

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to scratch the dashboard, the body, or the related parts.
- Take care not to bend the brackets.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see USING THE GR8 BATTERY DIAGNOSTIC STATION ), then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
- Remove these items from the dashboard area:
- A-pillar trims, both sides (see A-PILLAR TRIM )
- Kick panels, both sides (see step 3 under FRONT DOOR SILL AREA )
- Center panels (see DASHBOARD CENTER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Instrument panel (see INSTRUMENT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Driver's dashboard lower cover (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Center upper panel (see CENTER UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Center pocket (see CENTER POCKET REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Passenger's dashboard trim (see PASSENGER'S DASHBOARD TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Passenger's tray (see PASSENGER'S TRAY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Glove box (see GLOVE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Glove box striker (see GLOVE BOX STRIKER REPLACEMENT )
- Passenger's dashboard undercover (see PASSENGER'S DASHBOARD UNDERCOVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )

- Steering column (see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )
- Front passenger's airbag (see FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT )
- With navigation: GPS antenna (see GPS ANTENNA REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- TPMS control unit (see TPMS CONTROL UNIT REPLACEMENT ).
- Tweeter grille (if equipped) (see TWEETER AND TEST ).
- Remove the parking brake lever bracket mounting bolt, then lower the lever (A).
- From the front of the dashboard, detach the harness clip (A).
- Detach the harness clips (A) from the center area of the dashboard.
- Remove the bolts securing the dashboard (A).
- With an assistant holding the dashboard (A) up, detach the dashboard wire harness clips (B) from the right side of the dashboard duct, then carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening.
Dashboard duct removal
- If necessary, from the back of the dashboard (A), remove the screws, then remove the dashboard duct (B) from the dashboard.
Dashboard defroster duct removal
- If necessary, from the back of the dashboard (A), remove the screws, then remove the dashboard defroster duct (B) from the dashboard.
- Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Before tightening the bolt, make sure the dashboard wire harness is not pinched.
- Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Replace the passenger's airbag mounting bolts and the nuts with new ones.
- Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see USING THE GR8 BATTERY DIAGNOSTIC STATION ).
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
