Circuit Test
- If engine does not crank, ensure battery is fully charged, engine is not binding and is at room temperature. Check 10-amp CRANK fuse and inspect switches, terminals, wires and connections for corrosion, looseness or damage.
- Touch test light to starter solenoid "S" terminal. Place gear selector in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T). On M/T, fully depress clutch pedal. On all models, turn ignition switch to START position. If test light does not glow, perform IGNITION SWITCH TEST or NEUTRAL SWITCH TEST . If test light glows, check battery cables and connections.
- Measure voltage from battery negative terminal to engine block, positive probe connected to block. If reading is .5 volt or more, repair or replace ground cable. If reading is less then .5 volt, clean and tighten connections. Measure voltage at terminal "B" of starter solenoid. If reading is less than 9 volts, repair or replace positive battery cable. If reading is 9 volts or more, repair or replace starter.
