Manual Bleeding

Hydraulic system bleeding is necessary whenever air enters system. If master cylinder lines have been disconnected or master cylinder has run dry, bleed master cylinder, hydraulic control unit and brakes at all 4 wheels. Always bleed brakelines in sequence. See BLEEDING SEQUENCE  .

CAUTION: DO NOT allow reservoir to run dry during bleeding procedure. If brake fluid is spilled, clean surface immediately with alcohol, as brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. Use only DOT 3 brake fluid and DO NOT mix with any other types.
  1. Bleed master cylinder and hydraulic control unit first using pressure bleeding procedure. See PRESSURE BLEEDING  .
  2. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right rear brake bleeder cap. Connect one end of transparent vinyl tube to bleeder screw. Submerge other end of tube in a container half filled with clean brake fluid. Have an assistant depress brake pedal several times and hold in depressed position. Loosen bleeder screw and drain fluid into container.
NOTE: Ensure brake pedal remains depressed until bleeder screw is tightened.
  3. With pedal fully depressed, tighten bleeder screw. Release pedal. Refill brake fluid reservoir if necessary. Repeat step 2) until air is no longer discharged.
  4. Ensure fluid leakage is not present. Add fluid to reservoir. Repeat procedure for remaining wheels. See BLEEDING SEQUENCE  . When bleeding is complete, refill master cylinder.
