Pressure Bleeding
CAUTION:
The anti-lock brake system must be bled using the following procedure. If this procedure is not followed, air will be trapped in the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), resulting in a spongy pedal.
CAUTION:
DO NOT allow reservoir to run dry during bleeding procedure. If brake fluid is spilled, clean surface immediately with alcohol, as brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. Use only DOT 3 brake fluid and DO NOT mix with any other types.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect control module 40-pin connector. 4WABS control module is located on radiator support, right of battery tray. Connect ABS Adapter (49-UN01-062) and ABS Harness Adapter (49-UN01-063) to control module harness connector. Set ABS adapter switch to BLEED position. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Red OFF indicator light will illuminate.
- Press MOTOR button on adapter. Pump motor will run. Red indicator light will go out and Green ON indicator light will illuminate. Pump will run for 60 seconds. If pump motor needs to be turned off before 60 seconds has elapsed, press ABORT button.
- After pump motor runs for 20 seconds, press and hold VALVE button for 20 seconds, then release. Pump will continue to run for an additional 20 seconds. Any trapped air should have been bled from master cylinder and hydraulic control unit.
- Turn ignition off. Remove adapter and harness adapter. Reconnect control module connector. Brakes may now be bled in the conventional manner. See MANUAL BLEEDING .
