PINPOINT TEST 5 PATS TRANSCEIVER MODULE SIGNAL IS NOT RECEIVED
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
  • Key OFF.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Is DTC B1681 retrieved? 
Yes Go to next step.
No The system is OK.
2 CHECK THE PATS TRANSCEIVER CIRCUIT (W/V) FOR VOLTAGE
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the PATS Transceiver 0914-201.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage between the PATS transceiver 0914-201 pin 1, circuit (W/V), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK THE PATS TRANSCEIVER GROUND CIRCUIT (B/W) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Measure the resistance between the PATS transceiver 0914-201 pin 2, circuit (B/W), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK THE PATS TRANSCEIVER RECEIVE CIRCUIT (BR/O) FOR VOLTAGE
  • Reconnect the PATS Transceiver 0914-201.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage by back-probing between the PATS transceiver 0914-201 pin 3, circuit (BR/O), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 9 volts? 
Yes Go to step 6.
No Go to next step.
5 CHECK THE PATS TRANSCEIVER RECEIVE CIRCUIT (BR/O) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the PATS Transceiver 0914-201.
  • Measure the resistance between the PATS transceiver 0914-201 pin 3, circuit (BR/O), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation. If the system fails again, INSTALL a new PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) . REPROGRAM the encoded ignition keys. See KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK CIRCUIT (BR/O) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the PCM 0140-175b/275b.
  • Measure the resistance between the PATS transceiver 0914-201 pin 3, circuit (BR/O), harness side and PCM 0140-175b/275b pin 31, circuit (BR/O), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK THE PATS TRANSCEIVER TRANSMIT CIRCUIT (R/B) FOR VOLTAGE
  • Key OFF.
  • Reconnect the PATS Transceiver 0914-201.
  • Reconnect the PCM 0140-175b/275b.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage by back-probing between the PATS transceiver 0914-201 pin 4, circuit (R/B), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 9 volts? 
Yes Go to step 11.
No Go to next step.
8 CHECK THE PATS TRANSCEIVER TRANSMIT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND CIRCUIT (R/B) TRANSCEIVER CONNECTED
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the PCM 0140-175b/275b.
  • Measure the resistance between the PCM 0140-175b/275b pin 42, circuit (R/B), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 10.
No Go to next step.
9 CHECK THE PATS TRANSCEIVER TRANSMIT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND CIRCUIT (R/B) TRANSCEIVER DISCONNECTED
  • Disconnect the PATS Transceiver 0914-201.
  • Measure the resistance between the PATS transceiver 0914-201 pin 4, circuit (R/B), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes INSTALL a new PATS transceiver. See PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) TRANSCEIVER . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
No REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
10 CHECK THE PATS TRANSMIT CIRCUIT (R/B) FOR OPEN
NOTE:
  • When a new PCM is installed, the encoded ignition keys must be reprogrammed.
  • Disconnect the PATS Transceiver 0914-201.
  • Measure the resistance between the PATS transceiver 0914-201 pin 4, circuit (R/B), harness side and the PCM 0140-175b/275b pin 42, circuit (R/B), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 13.
No REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
11 CHECK THE TRANSCEIVER TRANSMIT CIRCUIT (R/B) FOR VOLTAGE Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Select PCM active command TRANSMIT SIGNAL COMMAND.
  • Trigger TRANSMIT to ON.
  • Measure the voltage by back-probing between the PATS transceiver 0914-201 pin 4, circuit (R/B), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage less than 5 volts? 
Yes INSTALL a new PATS transceiver. See PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) TRANSCEIVER . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
No Go to next step.
12 CHECK THE PATS TRANSCEIVER TRANSMIT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO BATTERY
NOTE:
  • When a new PCM is installed, the encoded ignition keys must be reprogrammed.
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the PCM 0140-175b/275b.
  • Disconnect the PATS Transceiver 0914-201.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage between the PATS 0914-201 pin 4, circuit (R/B), harness side and ground.
  • Is voltage present? 
Yes REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
No Go to next step.
13 CHECK THE PCM FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes INSTALL a new PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) . REPROGRAM the encoded ignition keys. See KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
