Transmission Control Cable: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  3. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL UPPER (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  4. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  5. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  6. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  7. REMOVE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
  8. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  9. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR 
  10. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 clips and disconnect the cable ends of the control cable.

    2. Using a screwdriver, release the cable locks of the shift cable and select cable.

    3. Turn the lock nuts 180°counterclockwise, and hold them in that position to remove the shift cable and select cable.
    4. Remove the shift cable from the floor shift shift lever assembly while holding the lock nut.
    5. Repeat the above process for the select cable.
    NOTE: Do not push in the cable locks.

  11. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 clips and 2 washers, and disconnect the top ends of the control cable from the transaxle.
    2. Remove the 2 clips and disconnect the control cable bracket.

    3. Remove the 2 nuts and clamp from the body.
    4. Remove the clamp from the control cable.

    5. Remove the 2 bolts from the retainer.
    6. Pull out the control cable from the floor.
