Air Conditioning Unit: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. DISCHARGE REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM (See  REPLACEMENT   ) 
  3. DISCONNECT NO. 1 COOLER REFRIGERANT SUCTION HOSE 
    1. Install SST on the piping clamp.

      SST 09870-00025 

      HINT:

      Confirm the correct direction of the piping clamp claw and SST by checking the illustration on the caution label.

    2. Push down SST and release the clamp lock.
      NOTE: Be careful not to deform the tube when pushing SST.
    3. Pull SST slightly and push the release lever, and then remove the piping clamp with SST.

    4. Disconnect the cooler refrigerant suction hose.
      NOTE:
      • Do not use a screwdriver or similar tool to disconnect the hose.
      • Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering them.
    5. Remove the 2 O-rings from the cooler refrigerant suction hose.

  4. DISCONNECT COOLER REFRIGERANT LIQUID PIPE 

    SST 09870-00015 

    HINT:

    Disconnection of the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe is the same as for the cooler refrigerant suction hose.

  5. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER INLET HOSE 
    1. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip.
    2. Disconnect the heater water inlet hose.
  6. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER OUTLET HOSE 

    HINT:

    Disconnection of the heater water outlet hose is the same as for the heater water inlet hose.

  7. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER 
    1. Remove the instrument panel sub-assembly upper (see REMOVAL ).
  8. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER 
    1. Remove the instrument panel sub-assembly lower (see REMOVAL ).
  9. REMOVE ECM (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  10. REMOVE NO. 3 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT 
    1. Remove the 2 clips.
    2. Detach the 2 claws and remove the heater to register duct.

  11. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSEMBLY LOWER 
    1. Detach the 2 claws and remove the defroster nozzle assembly lower.

  12. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO COWL BRACE CENTER 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and instrument panel to cowl brace center.

  13. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO COWL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the clip and fold the floor carpet back.

    2. Disconnect the 4 clamps and disconnect the wire harness.

    3. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.

    4. Disconnect the 2 clamps and disconnect the wire harness.

    5. Detach the 2 claws and disconnect the connector.

    6. Remove the 3 bolts, nut, screw and instrument panel to cowl brace sub-assembly.

  14. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUBASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 2 clamps and separate the wire harness.
    2. Disconnect the clamp and separate the antenna cord sub-assembly.

    3. Remove the bolt, nut and instrument panel brace.

  15. REMOVE AIR DUCT 
    1. Remove the connectors from the air duct and disconnect the connector.

    2. Remove the screw.
    3. Detach the 2 claws and remove the air duct.
  16. REMOVE BLOWER ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL  )

  17. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 connectors.

    2. Remove the 2 nuts and the air conditioning radiator.
