Hold-Open Circuit Test

  1. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. Enter diagnostics and select BCM input BI02. Turn headlight switch to "OFF" position. BCM should display "LO". Place headlight switch in "PARK" or "HEAD" position. BCM should display "HI". If BI02 displays correctly, go to step 2). If BI02 does not display correctly, check/repair left combination switch assembly or BCM.
  2. Remove headlight door relay "E" from underhood relay center. Ensure twilight sentinel control is off. Connect a test light between terminal No. 5 (Brown wire) and ground at position "E" of underhood relay center. Place headlight switch in "OFF" position. If test light does not glow, go to step 3). If test light glows, check Brown wire for an open. If wire is okay, ensure that park lights work. If necessary, repair exterior lights.
  3. Connect a test light between terminal No. 5 (Brown wire) and ground. Place headlight switch in "PARK" or "HEAD" position. If test light glows, go to step 4). If test light does not glow, check Brown wire for an open. If wire is okay, ensure that park lights work. If necessary, repair exterior lights.
  4. Connect a test light between terminal No. 5 (Brown wire) and terminal No. 2 (Black wire). Place headlight switch in "PARK" or "HEAD" position. If test light glows, go to step 5). If test light does not glow, check Black wire for an open.
  5. Connect test light between terminal No. 1 (Light Green wire) and ground. Place headlight switch in "PARK" or "OFF" position. If test light glows, go to step 6). If test light does not glow, go to step 8).
  6. With test light between terminal No. 1 (Light Green wire) and ground. Place headlight switch in "HEAD" position. If test light does not glow, go to step 7). If test light glows, go to step 8).
  7. If headlight doors do not close, go to step 9). If headlight doors close with park lights on, replace headlight door relay "E".
  8. If power and ground to headlight door relay "A" is okay, see DOOR OPERATING CIRCUIT TEST  . Check Light Green wire for an open. If wire is okay, replace headlight door relay "A".
  9. Connect a fused jumper between terminals No. 1 and No. 3 of the underhood relay center, position "E". If headlight doors close, replace headlight door relay "E". If headlight doors do not close, but will open, check the Dark Blue wire for an open. If necessary, repair or replace the headlight door motor.
